Welcome to SplitMate. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the SplitMate mobile application and related services (collectively, the "App"). By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use SplitMate. By using the App, you represent that you meet this requirement and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

SplitMate is a tool for tracking shared expenses among trip members. You are responsible for the accuracy of the data you enter, including expense amounts, splits, and settlements. SplitMate does not process payments — settlements between members happen outside the App. We are not responsible for resolving disputes between trip members regarding amounts owed or settled.

5. AI Receipt Scanning

The App offers AI-powered scanning for receipts, boarding passes, and other documents. Extracted information may contain errors. You are responsible for reviewing and confirming all auto-filled data before saving.

6. Intellectual Property

The App, including its design, code, branding, and content, is owned by SplitMate and is protected by intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes.

You retain ownership of the content you submit (expenses, trip details, documents). By submitting content, you grant us a limited license to store, process, and display it as necessary to operate the App.

7. Free Service

SplitMate is provided free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce paid features in the future, but core functionality will remain free for existing users. We will provide reasonable notice before any pricing changes.

8. Third-Party Services

The App relies on third-party services including Supabase (database and authentication), Firebase (push notifications), and Groq (AI processing). Your use of the App is also subject to the terms of these providers where applicable.

9. Termination

You may stop using the App at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the service. On termination, your right to use the App ends, but provisions that by their nature should survive (such as disclaimers and limitations of liability) will continue to apply.

10. Disclaimers

The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that data will always sync correctly.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, SplitMate and its affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of the App.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms within the App or on our website. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which SplitMate operates, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
