SplitMate ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the SplitMate mobile application (the "App"). Please read this policy carefully.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Phone number (for OTP-based authentication)
- Email address (if you sign in with Google or Apple)
- Display name and profile photo (if provided)
Trip & Expense Data
When you use the App, we collect the data you provide:
- Trip names, descriptions, and currency preferences
- Expense details (amounts, descriptions, categories, dates)
- Split information (who paid, how costs are divided)
- Settlement and payment records
Camera & Photos
The App requests camera access only to scan receipts using our AI-powered receipt scanner. Photos are processed to extract expense information (amount, category, description). We do not access your photo library without your explicit action.
Device Information
We may collect:
- Device type, operating system, and version
- Push notification tokens (for delivering notifications)
- Locale and timezone (for currency detection and date formatting)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App's functionality
- Authenticate your identity and secure your account
- Calculate balances, splits, and settlements between group members
- Process receipt images to auto-fill expense details
- Send push notifications about trip activity (expenses added, payments recorded, members joining)
- Sync your data across devices
- Provide spending analytics and insights
3. How We Share Your Information
With Trip Members: Expense details, balances, and activity within a trip are visible to all members of that trip. This is core to how the App functions.
With Service Providers: We use the following third-party services to operate the App:
- Supabase — Cloud database and authentication
- Firebase (Google) — Push notifications
- Groq — AI-powered receipt scanning (receipt images are sent for processing)
We do not:
- Sell your personal data to third parties
- Share your data with advertisers
- Use your data for targeted advertising
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored locally on your device (using an encrypted local database) and synced to secure cloud servers hosted by Supabase. We implement industry-standard security measures including:
- Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
- Row-level security policies on all database tables
- Secure authentication via OTP and OAuth providers
While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Offline Data
The App stores data locally on your device to enable offline functionality. This local data is synced to our cloud servers when an internet connection is available. You can delete local data by uninstalling the App.
6. Your Rights & Choices
- Access & Export: You can view all your trip and expense data within the App at any time.
- Notification Preferences: You can control which notifications you receive in the App's profile settings.
- Camera Permission: You can revoke camera access at any time in your device settings. The App will continue to work without it — you simply won't be able to scan receipts.
- Account Deletion: You can request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us at hello@splitmate.live. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
7. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
8. Third-Party Links
The App may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy within the App or on our website. The "Effective Date" at the top indicates when the policy was last revised.
